Originally painted for my 2020 mini solo show, "Every Goodbye" at Outré Gallery.
"Saudade" is a word of Portuguese origin that refers to the feeling of melancholy, loneliness and nostalgia. In Korean, it's similar to the word 그리움 (greeum).
We all live with memories and longing for some of those memories, beautiful or otherwise. Many times our memories make the past more beautiful than it may actually have been, or still hold on to the creeping, decaying parts to haunt ourselves. They're all still a part of each of us, making us the unique "person" that we are.
